It is our pleasure to announce the recipient of the 2026 SFGHA Cubs Bursary: Tessa Walden.
Tessa has been a proud and dedicated member of the Smiths Falls Girls Hockey Association since moving to Smiths Falls in 2017. Over the past 9 years, she has become a true ambassador of the Cubs organization.
When she isn’t playing hockey or rugby, Tessa can often be found at the rink giving back - coaching our U7 Senior team. Coach Justin shared that throughout the season, Tessa volunteered her time every Friday and Sunday, consistently showing up with enthusiasm and a genuine passion for helping others. She played an active role in running drills, leading stretches, and supporting the overall flow of practices.
More importantly, Tessa went beyond teaching the game - she built strong, positive connections with the young players. Her leadership, dedication, and positive influence truly reflect the values this bursary is meant to recognize.
When asked what advice she would give to players just starting their hockey journey, Tessa said: “Be a good teammate, be a leader, and always remember it is a team sport.” Words she clearly lives by every day.
This fall, Tessa will be attending University, where she will be pursuing a degree in engineering while continuing her athletic career with the rugby team.
Tessa, we are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and the example you have set for younger players in our community. We wish you the very best in this exciting next chapter.
